SUMMARY:Jornadas de Invierno | Otoneurología Contemporánea
DESCRIPTION:Estimados Amigos y Colegas\, \n​ \nCada cierto tiempo en la historia de la medicina emergen conocimientos que no solo hacen progresar una determinada disciplina sino que la transforman\, redibujando los paradigmas previamente imperantes en ella. \n​ \nEn mi impresión tenemos la fortuna de estar viviendo uno de estos momentos en el campo de la Otoneurología. Los avances de la última década tanto en el conocimiento de la fisiología cocleovestibular\, como en las herramientas tecnológicas que permiten estudiarla\, han generado enormes cambios en el abordaje clínico de los trastornos del vértigo\, el equilibrio y la audición. \n​ \nPor un lado es posible conocer con un nivel de detalle antes inimaginable la función del oído interno y sus vías neurales\, permitiendo caracterizar casos que previamente caían en un halo de misterio e incertidumbre. \n​ \nPero quizás más relevante\, el estado actual del conocimiento ha permitido ver la patología cocleovestibular con renovada y refrescante simpleza\, mirada que es fácil de adquirir apenas con algunas claves anamnésticas y elementos bien definidos de un examen físico sencillo de aprender. Así\, sin requerir de tecnología sofisticada\, es posible manejar de forma eficiente y rápida la inmensa mayoría de los cuadros otoneurológicos. \n​ \nEs en este contexto que me resulta tremendamente fascinante el desafío que me ha encomendado el directorio de la Sociedad Chilena de Otorrinolaringología\, de dirigir una nueva versión de nuestras tradicionales Jornadas de Invierno con la misión de recoger y compartir estos avances en la Otoneurología. \n​ \nUna de nuestras primeras decisiones que tomamos como comité directivo fue la de realizar este evento en conjunto con la Sociedad de Neurología\, Psiquiatría y Neurocirugía de Chile (SONEPSYN)\, reconociendo el profundo valor de un trabajo verdaderamente multidisciplinario para enfrentar la Otoneurología Contemporánea. De la misma forma hemos querido incluir desde la raíz de nuestro programa científico a otras profesiones médicas afines\, como la tecnología médica\, fonoaudiología\, psicología y kinesiología\, por nombrar algunas. \n\nDesde ya los invito entonces a acompañarnos del 1 al 3 de Agosto de 2018 en las Jornadas de Invierno: Otoneurología Contemporánea. \n\nUn cariñoso abrazo a todos\, \n\nHayo A. SUMMARY:SGH ENT Fortnight 2018
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends and Colleagues\, \nFor the past 13 years\, it has been a highlight event in our department’s calendar to organise the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) ENT Instructional Course Fortnight\, a back-to-back series of ENT cadaveric dissection workshops helmed by renowned International and Local Faculty. Over the years\, the program has progressively expanded and covered more subspecialty areas and topics. Today\, it gives me great pleasure to announce that the SGH ENT Instructional Fortnight 2018 will be held from 3-20 August 2018 at Academia\, located within the SGH Outram Road campus.  \nThe courses are structured to be relevant and appealing to practicing surgeons as well as ENT Residents in various stages of training. We will retain flexibility to ensure that those with various levels of surgical expertise are given the opportunities that commensurate with their aspirations for the course\, with the possibility of performing advanced surgical dissections under supervision of the faculty. Many of these workshops have been running for numerous years\, such as the 22nd FESS and Skull Base Surgery Course and the 15thOtology and Neurotology Course. The program for these workshops have been refined through these many years to afford you the best educational hands on experience that you can have. \nI look forward to welcoming you to Singapore and to meeting you in person in August 2018!   \n \nProgramme

SUMMARY:SASMFOS 2018 Annual Congress
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of The South African Society of Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeons it gives us great pleasure to announce that the 2018 Annual congress of our society will take place from Thursday 09th August to Sunday 12th August 2018. The congress will be held at the Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel and Conference Centre in Umhlanga near Durban. \nThe Coastlands Umhlanga is situated in the heart of the commercial area of Umhlanga and a mere 20 minutes from King Shaka International Airport\, making it an ideal venue for the congress. The congress hotel is renowned for its friendly service and stylish attention to detail. Regular shuttles operate from the hotel to the popular shopping centers and entertainment areas in and around Umhlanga. The many options of the beaches of Umhlanga\, Umhloti and Durban are easily accessible and so are the shopping malls of Gateway and the new malls in Ballito. There are numerous high quality restaurants in the Umhlanga Village which has a vibrant atmosphere in the evenings. \nThis year’s congress will again allow our members and registrars to showcase their work as it is considered a local content congress. Members will be able to enter for the members’ prize and registrars’ research competition. There will also be an exciting array of other South African speakers. We will showcase 5-6 eminent Maxillofacial and Oral Pathologists on the opening day\, have a members’ day on the Friday\, and present a pain symposium on the Saturday and end of with implantology and ethics on the Sunday morning. \nThe Congress organizing committee consists of Vivesh Rughubar\, Rinus Beukes (treasurer)\, Wynand van der Linden\, Greg Boyes-Varley\, Jean Morkel (scientific)\, Doug Beere (scientific)\, Tom Cason and Ebi Fakir (Traders) and Mo Moolla. \nThe Scientific Committee welcomes abstract submissions i.e. oral and poster\, including entry into the scientific competitions. We encourage all members to participate and case studies are welcome. The Abstract forms will be available on the SASMFOS congress website and electronic online abstract submissions are welcomed http://www.sasmfos.org/congress.php \nCongress registration and hotel accommodation for congress delegates is being organized through OnScreen Conferences and Events.
