As the premier regional forum on Allergy and Rhinology\, we are proud to offer a variety of platforms for participants with different backgrounds to engage\, to share and to learn from distinguished international faculty as well as colleagues from around the region. The popularity of SARC stems from its unique combination of didactic lectures and discussion panels covering both the fundamentals and most recent advancements in our discipline. Participants have the opportunity to learn from the experts and then to discuss how ideas can be incorporated into their unique healthcare environments. Since its introduction\, there has been enthusiastic reception for the regional research forum and we want to encourage greater participation and competitiveness as we plan for 2018. World-renown pioneer in endoscopic skull base surgery (ESBS)\, Professor Ricardo Carrau (USA)\, will undoubtedly bring a new dimension into the scope of the conference. \nThe SARC FESS Workshop gets bigger each year under the guidance of A/Professor Dharambir Sethi. In addition to bringing the very best of international faculty\, we are committed to participants having maximum dissecting time with almost one-to-one mentoring. Our honoured international speakers Dr Angkoon Anuwong and Dr Gianlorenzo Dionigi\, together with our local faculty\, shared many pearls on how to perform this emerging technique safely and effectively. We were excited to welcome many participants from all over the world\, including Australia\, Hong Kong\, Indoneisa\, Italy\, Jordan\, Malaysia\, Myanmar\, Pakistan\, Saudi Arabia\, Taiwan\, Vietnam and Singapore. \nIt is clear that with the right indications and patient selection\, transoral thyroidectomy is a viable and efficient technique for scarless thyroidectomy. \nFollowing the resounding success of the 1st course\, we have begun planning for the 2nd SARC transoral thyroidectomy cadaveric dissection course in Singapore. For 2018 \, we would like to introduce a  2 day course. \nThe first day will feature live surgey performed by Dr Angkoon Anuwong\, the world leader in transoral thyroidectomy. DESCRIPTION:El «NOVENO CURSO TEÓRICO-PRÁCTICO DE DIAGNÓSTICO Y TRATAMIENTO DE LAS ALTERACIONES DEL EQUILIBRIO» se desarrollará en el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital Clínico de Santiago de Compostela\, los días 3 y 4 de mayo de 2018. Está dirigido a médicos de diferentes especialidades (Otorrinolaringología\, Neurología\, Rehabilitación\,…) y audiólogos interesados en la exploración vestibular y en la rehabilitación de las alteraciones del equilibrio. \nManteniendo la estructura de la primeras ediciones (los contenidos teóricos se restringen a aquellos aspectos referidos de forma directa a la exploración\, la clínica y la rehabilitación vestibular\, dejando una parte importante de las horas totales dedicadas a la parte práctica)\, se pretende consolidar el enfoque todavía más práctico ya iniciado en las últimas ediciones del curso\, orientado a facilitar el manejo de estos enfermos. Así\, la mayoría de las clases teóricas se plantearán como respuesta a preguntas clínicas cotidianas. SUMMARY:IV Curso de PLANIFICACIÓN QUIRÚRGICA EN 3D EN ORL Y MANEJO DE IMÁGENES CON OSIRIX
DESCRIPTION:Objetivos del Curso \nLas áreas ORL son muy accesibles a la exploración visual y a la complementada con tecnologías endoscópicas y microscópicas\, pero no son suficientes para establecer diagnósticos de precisión y llevar a cabo procedimientos quirúrgicos efectivos y seguros. El progreso tecnológico en imágenes radiológicas ha permitido mejorar de forma relevante el manejo de las enfermedades ORL\, tanto para su diagnóstico como para su tratamiento quirúrgico. \nMientras se practican cirugías cada vez más agresivas contra la enfermedad y más distantes de las áreas clásicias y propias de la Otorrinolaringología\, al mismo tiempo se hacen con menos morbilidad para el paciente mediante abordajes cada vez menos invasivos. Sin embargo\, se asiste a la persistencia e incluso a la recidiva de enfermedades rinosinusales y otológicas que tienen un sustrato inflamatorio. El cirujano contrapone el carácter beningo\, la evolución crónica de estas patologías y su tendencia intrínseca a la recidiva con los riesgos que se asumirían para su completa erradicación en forma de posibles y graves y complicaciones. \nGran parte de los fallos de la cirugía se debe precisamente a la actuación del cirujano\, cuando se revela la insuficiente eliminación de estructuras anatómicas enfermas o la persistencia de elementos anatómicos claves para el mantenimiento de la enfermedad. La aversión al riesgo ante posibles complicaciones radica frecuentemente en el desconocimiento detallado de la anatomía normal y patológica que se están operando. Este Curso pretende que el asistente incorpore a su trabajo cotidiano la metodología del manejo de imágenes 3D de forma preoperatoria con objeto de conocer con precisión la disposición tridimensional de las estructuras anatómicas y resolverlas adecuadamente durante la realización del acto quirúrgico. \n \nprograma\n

SUMMARY:V Curso sobre SAOS: DISE Y FARINGOPLASTIA
DESCRIPTION:En esta edición\, el curso tendrá lugar en el Hospital Miguel Servet\, en colaboración con el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología de dicho hospital y con \nla cátedra de Anatomía de la Facultad de Medicina de Zaragoza.\n\nTenemos dos objetivos principales: en primer lugar\, definir los criterios diagnósticos de esta enfermedad y sus repercusiones cardiovasculares\,\nespecialmente al incorporar la somnoscopia (DISE) para determinar el nivel o niveles que causan la obstrucción de la vía aérea superior de los pacientes. En segundo lugar\, revisaremos las principales técnicas quirúrgicas que se han desarrollado últimamente\, como las faringoplastias\, la estimulación del hipogloso y la terapia miofuncional\, y discutiremos sus indicaciones y resultados.\n\nPor ello\, se trata de un curso teórico y práctico\, en el que\, además de conferencias magistrales\, los alumnos podrán participar en talleres prácticos y\ndesarrollar prácticas de disección en cadáver.\n\nAdemás\, contaremos con la presencia de auténticos expertos en el tema\, siendo esta una oportunidad única de aprender directamente de los maestros\, como los profesores Victor F. SUMMARY:XXXth Bárány Society Meeting
DESCRIPTION:It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the XXX Bárány Society Meeting to be held in Uppsala from Sunday\, June 10 through Wednesday\, June 13 2018\, in the prime of the summer\, when the sun barely sets in Scandinavia. It is our intention to follow the successful footsteps of the meetings in Buenos Aires (2014) and Seoul (2016). By saying that\, it is our clear vision that the meeting will offer everyone new insights in the field of oto-neurology and a great conference time. \nThe Bárány Society is an international interdisciplinary society founded 1960 with the intention to increase and diffuse the knowledge of oto-neurology and vestibular function. An important goal of the Bárány Society today is to facilitate contacts between basic scientists and clinicians engaged in vestibular research. Every six years the Bárány Society Meeting is revisiting Robert Bárány’s Uppsala. Uppsala offers a visit to a Scandinavian university city with a mixture of tradition and new cool design. In the quiet surroundings you can easily walk between your hotel and the venue. \nOur meeting will be held at the Uppsala Concert and Congress Hall in the center of Uppsala\, with a pre-congress teaching day at the Uppsala University Hospital the 10th of June as a part of the visit. Uppsala is situated in the vicinity of Stockholm and easily reached by train arriving from the international airport of Stockholm Arlanda (ARN). \nWe find it important to announce that members as well as non-members interested in oto-neurology are invited to this exciting event. During the meeting five prizes will be given for scientific achievements. The most prestigious prize is the Bárány Gold Medal that is awarded by the Medical Faculty\, at Uppsala University. It is awarded to “the author who during the last six-year period has published the most valuable work on the vestibular apparatus in the widest sense of this term”. The Bárány Society likes to encourage researchers and clinicians under the age of 40 to apply for the new prize\, Won-Sang Lee Award\, open to members and non-members. \nAny delegate wishing to present is invited to submit abstracts to us. The topics are being chosen in line with the subjects presented during the last meeting in Seoul. We will use our own conference app to ensure a safe and easy communication during the meeting.
